# Can ChatGPT read Xiaohongshu (RedNote)?

Yes, once you connect it to an MCP server that reads Xiaohongshu (RedNote), such as SocialToAI: paste one address, sign in and press Allow. On its own it gets little: the platform's robots.txt tells fetchers it does not name `Disallow: /`. Connected, it reads notes and comments, from 12 credits a call.

## On its own

The platform's robots.txt lets a short list of search engines read `/explore` and tells every other fetcher `Disallow: /`. ChatGPT's fetchers are not on the list.

Xiaohongshu's open platform currently offers login only: after the app passes review, it can read the basic profile (nickname, avatar) of users who authorise it. No API for reading public notes or comments is documented.

What ChatGPT's own browsing opens changes, and we cannot speak for it. What follows does not depend on it.

## Connect ChatGPT

- In ChatGPT on the web, open Plugins, press the plus button and choose Add custom MCP server.
- Name it SocialToAI. Under Connection, paste the address as the Server URL and choose OAuth; confirm the risk warning and select Create as a plugin.
- Install the plugin. When ChatGPT asks you to sign in, sign in to SocialToAI with the code we email you and press Allow.
- In a chat, type @, pick SocialToAI and ask.

> **Note** Custom MCP servers are added in ChatGPT on the web. Whether your plan and workspace allow it is decided by ChatGPT and changes; check your account. Older guides call the same entry developer mode, connectors or apps.

> **Note** No key to copy: the connection shows up under API keys in the console, named ChatGPT, where you can give it a daily cap or revoke it.

The full setup and how to check it: [Connect ChatGPT](https://socialtoai.com/connect/chatgpt.md). A longer walk through: [this how-to](https://socialtoai.com/how-to/let-chatgpt-read-xiaohongshu.md).

## What it can read then

| Can | Cannot |
| --- | --- |
| Search results, a note's text and numbers, its comments, an account's profile and notes. | View counts: Xiaohongshu does not give them. Private notes and anything behind a login. Posting or replying. |

> **Links** Keep the whole link, with what follows the question mark: on the web a note opens only with its token. If a client cuts the link short, give the 24-character note ID instead; the call takes that too.

| Ask | Credits |
| --- | --- |
| Search Xiaohongshu for notes about "咖啡". | 12 |
