# How to analyze video comments with AI, and keep the original words

To know what a video's comments say, with the commenters' own words beside each point, give the link to your AI or to the Comment analysis tool. ## Why not the platform's own API

Douyin's open platform provides video data for users who authorise the app: the video list endpoint needs the user's authorisation and a permission applied for in the developer console. No endpoint for reading any public video or profile is documented.

## What to know first

- **Commenters are always anonymous.** Quotes keep the words, never who wrote them.
- **What the platform does not show cannot be read.** Comments that are hidden, deleted or folded by the platform are out of reach.
- **Shares are of the comments read, not of all viewers,** and many comments on a sales video can read alike. Read the quotes before you trust a number.
